Search for the best interior designers in Bangalore and you will find hundreds of firms, from large online brands to small studios and freelance designers. There is no single “best” firm for everyone: the right designer for a compact 2BHK on a fixed budget is different from the right one for a large villa. What you can do is check every shortlisted designer against the same criteria. This guide gives you that checklist, the questions to ask and the warning signs to watch for.

Decide what you need first

  • Scope: full home, kitchen and wardrobes only, or a renovation?
  • Budget band: functional budget interiors, premium finishes or fully personalised luxury work. See what drives interior cost.
  • Timeline: are you moving in on a fixed date, or is there flexibility?
  • Style: collect a few reference images so you can judge whether a designer’s past work matches your taste.

What to check before you shortlist

1. Design work that matches your home

Look at full-home projects of a similar size and budget, not just single hero photos. Ask whether images are 3D renders or photographs of finished homes; both are useful, but you should know which is which.

2. A 3D design before production

A good designer shows you your actual rooms in 3D, on your floor plan, and revises them until you approve. Production should start only after that sign-off.

3. Material transparency

The quotation should name the board grade (for example BWP plywood), laminate or finish brand, hardware brand and thicknesses for every item. Read plywood grades explained and how to compare interior quotations.

4. Who actually builds the furniture

Ask whether furniture is factory-made modular, made by a carpenter on site, or a mix, and who supervises the work. See modular vs carpenter-made furniture.

5. Clear payment schedule and timeline

Payments should be linked to milestones such as design sign-off, material delivery and installation. See interior payment schedules in Bangalore and interior project timelines.

6. Warranty and after-sales support

Get the warranty in writing for woodwork and hardware, and ask how quickly issues are attended to after handover. See questions to ask about warranty and after-sales.

Questions to ask in the first meeting

  • Can I see a full project similar to mine, room by room?
  • Which plywood grade, laminate and hardware brands are included in the quote?
  • What is not included (civil work, electricals, painting, appliances, lights)?
  • How many design revisions are included before production?
  • Who is my single point of contact during execution?
  • How do you handle association rules, working hours and site cleaning?

Red flags

  • A per-square-foot price with no itemised list of materials.
  • Pressure to pay a large advance before any design is shown.
  • Vague answers about board grade or hardware brands.
  • No written timeline or warranty.
  • Portfolio images that cannot be matched to real projects.

How ModScale works

ModScale is a home interiors and modular carpentry studio in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. We design every home in 3D on its floor plan first, show you the exact materials and brands in the quotation, build cabinetry, wardrobes and kitchens in BWP plywood, and handle production and installation end to end, with support after the project is finished. You can see full-home designs prepared for our clients, room by room, in our portfolio, and read how a project runs on our process page.

Our work covers budget homes, premium homes and luxury homes across Bangalore. See interior designers in Bangalore for the areas we serve.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the best interior designer in Bangalore?

Compare shortlisted designers on similar past projects, a 3D design before production, material transparency in the quotation, a milestone-based payment schedule and a written warranty.

Should I choose a large interior brand or a small studio?

Either can work. Large brands offer standard packages and processes; smaller studios often give more personal attention and customisation. Judge each on the same checklist.

What should an interior quotation include?

Each item with dimensions, board grade, finish and brand, hardware brand, and clear exclusions such as civil work, electricals, painting and appliances.

Is it better to pay per square foot or per item?

An itemised quotation is easier to compare and check. Per-square-foot figures are useful for rough budgeting but hide what is actually included.

Does ModScale show a 3D design before starting work?

Yes. We design every home in 3D on its floor plan and revise it with you before anything goes into production.
