A luxury bedroom is not about how much is in it. It is about how restful it feels: soft light, good storage, quiet materials and nothing on show that does not need to be. These ideas work in Bengaluru apartments as well as villas.

1. Design the headboard wall
The wall behind the bed is the bedroom’s focal point. An upholstered, panelled or fluted headboard wall, often running wider than the bed and lit from above, gives the room structure and comfort.
2. Layer soft lighting
Warm cove lighting, bedside wall lights or pendants, and a dim night light. Avoid a single bright ceiling light; it flattens the room. Our lighting guide covers colour temperature and dimming.
3. Build in wardrobes and dressing
Full-height wardrobes, finished to match the room, keep clutter out of sight. A dressing niche or a separate dressing area makes daily routines easier. See wardrobe design and wardrobe and dressing table layouts.

4. Keep the palette calm
Warm neutrals, soft greens and greys, or a deeper palette used consistently. Contrast comes from texture, not loud colour.
5. Use fabric generously
Blackout and sheer curtains on separate tracks, a rug underfoot and upholstered pieces soften sound and light, which matters in city apartments.

6. Add one considered seat
A bench at the foot of the bed or an armchair by the window adds comfort and completes the room without crowding it.
7. Plan the switches and points
Bedside switches for all lights, charging points at the bed and dressing area, and provision for curtain motors if you want them, all decided at design stage.
