In a modular kitchen, the doors (or shutters) are what you see and touch every day. They set the style, take the most wear and decide how easy the kitchen is to clean. Here are kitchen door designs, finishes and hardware choices that suit Indian kitchens.

Kitchen door styles

Flat (slab) shutters

Plain flat doors look modern and are the easiest to wipe. Pair them with profile handles or push-to-open fittings for a handle-less look.

Profile and frame shutters

Aluminium frames with glass, fluted glass or a laminate insert add detail to wall units and tall units.

Glass-front doors

Clear, tinted or fluted glass on a few wall units displays crockery and lightens a long run of cabinets. Add a backlight inside.

Shaker and groove doors

A raised frame or routed groove gives a classic look; it suits traditional and transitional kitchens but collects more grease in the grooves.

Two-tone doors

Darker base doors and lighter wall doors are a modern favourite. See laminate colour combinations.

Rolling shutters and tambour doors

A roller shutter on an appliance garage hides the mixer, toaster and kettle while keeping them plugged in.

Finishes

  • Laminate: durable and affordable; matt hides fingerprints.
  • Acrylic: high gloss, easy to clean.
  • PU paint: seamless, any colour, premium.
  • Veneer: natural wood grain; needs care near water.
  • Glass and aluminium: for wall and tall units.

Compare them in PU vs acrylic vs laminate.

Handles, hinges and lift-ups

  • G-profile and J-profile handles for a clean, handle-less look.
  • Soft-close hinges on all doors.
  • Lift-up or flap mechanisms on wall units above the hob.
  • Gas-lift or push-to-open for glass and high doors.

Frequently asked questions

Which kitchen shutter finish lasts longest?

Good-quality laminate and acrylic are very durable for daily use. PU looks premium but can chip if knocked. Matt laminate hides fingerprints best.

Are glass kitchen doors practical?

Yes, on a few wall units for display. Use toughened or fluted glass and keep them away from the hob where grease collects.

What are profile handles?

G-profile and J-profile handles are aluminium sections fixed along the shutter edge, giving a handle-less look with an easy grip.

Should kitchen wall units have lift-up doors?

Lift-up or flap doors are easier above the hob and counter, because you do not have to dodge an open side-hinged door.

What material should be behind kitchen shutters?

BWP plywood for the shutter core and carcass, especially near the sink and hob.
