Choosing an interior designer for a luxury home is a decision you will live with for years. The right studio protects your budget, your time and the quality of the finished home; the wrong one turns a beautiful render into a disappointing reality. Here is what to look for.

1. A design process, not just renders

Good renders are easy to produce. Ask how the studio gets from your floor plan to a design: do they measure the site themselves, discuss each room with you, and let you revise the design before anything is made? A clear process is the best predictor of a good result. Ours is set out on our process page.

2. Material transparency

A luxury quote should tell you exactly what you are paying for: board grade, hardware brand, finish type and thickness. Vague lines such as “premium plywood” or “branded hardware” make it impossible to compare studios. Our guide to plywood grades explains what to look for.

3. Who executes the work

Many problems in luxury interiors happen in the gap between the designer and the contractor. Ask who produces the joinery, who installs it, and who is responsible if the finished home does not match the design. A turnkey studio that designs, produces and installs removes that gap.

4. Real projects you can look at closely

Look past the hero images. Ask what the brief was, what the constraints were, and how the details were resolved. Look at joinery, alignment and lighting, not just colour schemes. See our project portfolio.

5. An honest conversation about budget and time

A good studio will tell you what drives the cost and what can realistically be done in your timeline, including long-lead items such as decorative lighting and specific stone, which can take four to eight weeks. Be wary of anyone who quotes a single number before seeing your home. Read how long home interiors take.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Will you measure the site before designing?
  • How many design revisions are included, and when is the design frozen?
  • What exact materials and hardware are in the quote?
  • Who produces and installs the work?
  • How are quality checks done during installation?
  • What happens after handover if something needs adjusting?
