Ask three kitchen vendors for a rate and you will hear three different numbers per square foot. All three may be honest. The rate only means something once you know what is being measured and what is inside the cabinet. This guide explains both, so you can read any kitchen quotation in Bangalore with confidence.

The short answer

Published 2026 price guides put modular kitchens in Bangalore at roughly ₹1,200 to ₹5,000 or more per square foot. That translates to about ₹1.5 to 3 lakh for a basic kitchen, ₹3 to 6 lakh for a mid-range one, and ₹6 lakh upwards for a premium kitchen. Treat these as market ranges, not a quote. How the square footage is measured

This is where most confusion starts. A kitchen is not priced on its floor area. It is priced on the front face of the cabinets: width multiplied by height, unit by unit.

Take a typical L-shaped kitchen in a Bangalore 2BHK:

  • Base units: 12 running feet at 2.8 feet high, about 34 sq ft
  • Wall units: 10 running feet at 2 feet high, 20 sq ft
  • One tall unit: 2 feet wide by 7 feet high, 14 sq ft

That is about 68 sq ft of cabinetry in a kitchen whose floor may be 80 sq ft. At ₹2,500 per sq ft, the woodwork comes to roughly ₹1.7 lakh before the countertop, appliances and GST.

Some vendors quote per running foot instead. Neither method is wrong, but you cannot compare a per-square-foot quote with a per-running-foot quote. Ask every vendor to use the same method.

Price by cabinet material

The board inside the cabinet is the biggest driver of the rate. The 2026 guides above give these bands for Bangalore:

Carcass materialTypical rate per sq ftWhere it fits
MDF or particle board₹1,200 to 1,800Rental flats, short-term use
HDHMR₹1,800 to 2,500Dry zones, wall units
BWP plywood₹2,500 to 3,500Sink and hob zones, daily Indian cooking
BWP plywood with premium finishes₹3,500 to 5,000+Acrylic, PU or veneer shutters

For a kitchen that sees daily cooking, we recommend BWP plywood at least around the sink. Read more in our guide to plywood grades.

Six choices that move the price

  1. Shutter finish. Laminate is the most economical and the most forgiving. Acrylic, PU and veneer add a clear premium per square foot. See PU vs acrylic vs laminate.
  2. Hardware. Soft-close hinges, tandem drawers and corner units from a named brand cost more than unbranded fittings, and last far longer.
  3. Accessories. Tall pull-outs, cutlery trays, bottle pull-outs and corner carousels are priced per piece, outside the square-foot rate.
  4. Countertop. Granite and quartz are priced separately, by their own square footage. Compare options in our countertop materials guide.
  5. Layout. A U-shaped or island kitchen simply has more cabinetry than a straight or L-shaped one.
  6. Custom sizes. Standard module widths are efficient. Odd sizes built for one specific wall take more labour.

What the per-square-foot rate usually leaves out

Before you compare two rates, check whether each includes:

  • Countertop, sink and tap
  • Chimney, hob and built-in appliances
  • Wall tiles or backsplash
  • Electrical points, plumbing changes and gas piping
  • Handles or profile handles
  • Installation, transport and 18% GST

A low rate with a long exclusion list often ends up higher than a fair rate with everything named. Our post on what actually drives interior cost explains how to read a quotation line by line.

How to keep a kitchen budget under control

  • Spend on what you touch daily: drawer channels, hinges and the countertop.
  • Use BWP plywood in wet zones and HDHMR in dry wall units.
  • Choose laminate shutters with one accent finish instead of acrylic throughout.
  • Fix the appliance list before design, so cabinets are not rebuilt later.
  • Plan the layout around how you cook. Our layout guide for Indian cooking covers this.

Frequently asked questions

What is the modular kitchen price per square feet in Bangalore?

Published 2026 guides place it between roughly ₹1,200 and ₹5,000 per sq ft, depending on board, finish and hardware.

Is the rate applied to the floor area of the kitchen?

No. It is applied to the front area of the cabinets, measured width by height for each unit.

What does a low cost modular kitchen include?

Usually an HDHMR or MDF carcass, laminate shutters, basic hardware and few accessories. It works for light use, but check the board grade near the sink.

Why will a designer not give a firm price over the phone?

Because the final number depends on measured sizes and site conditions. A range from your floor plan is reasonable; a firm quote needs a site visit.
