False ceiling cost is usually quoted per square foot, but the rate alone can be misleading: lighting, cove profiles, design levels and painting can change the final bill a lot. Here are published rates and what drives them.
Published per sq ft rates
- Housiey’s 2026 interior budgeting guide (national averages): gypsum about ₹90 to ₹150 per sq ft, POP about ₹70 to ₹120 per sq ft, and wooden ceilings about ₹250 to ₹450 per sq ft.
- Bangalore guides quoted in our 3BHK cost guide put gypsum ceilings with cove lighting at roughly ₹80 to ₹150 per sq ft for material and labour.
- Tint Tone and Shade’s Bangalore cost guide (July 2026) gives whole-home false ceiling budgets of about ₹70,000 (basic), ₹1 lakh (mid-range) and ₹2 lakh (premium).
Figures above are published industry ranges, not ModScale quotations. They exclude GST unless stated. Your cost depends on scope, materials and finishes.
What drives the cost
- Material: gypsum, POP, wood, PVC or moisture-resistant boards. See gypsum vs POP.
- Design: a flat ceiling or simple peripheral drop costs less than multi-level, curved or tray ceilings.
- Lighting: cove strips, profile lights, spotlights and their wiring are often priced separately.
- Area measurement: check whether the vendor charges on the ceiling area covered or on the room’s floor area.
- Painting and finishing, and any electrical changes.
