Material transparency is not a slogan — it is a list. Below is what we specify, what each option genuinely gives you, and where it belongs.
Materials by category
BWR Plywood
Appearance: Warm timber core, sanded faces. Always finished over.
Where it belongs: Wardrobes, storage units, beds, dry-area carcass work.
Maintenance: Keep sealed on all six faces. Avoid standing water.
Boiling Water Resistant. The everyday standard for dry-area carcasses.
BWP / Marine Plywood
Appearance: Denser core, fewer voids, darker glue lines.
Where it belongs: Kitchen base and wall units, utility, vanities, wet zones.
Maintenance: Edge-band all cut edges. Seal cut-outs around sinks.
Boiling Water Proof, phenolic bonded. What we specify in kitchens.
HDHMR
Appearance: Uniform dense board, no grain, perfectly flat.
Where it belongs: Shutters for lacquer and membrane finishes, CNC-routed panels.
Maintenance: Excellent for painted finishes; not for prolonged wet contact.
High Density High Moisture Resistance. The flattest substrate for paint.
WPC / PVC Board
Appearance: Matte polymer board, no grain.
Where it belongs: Bathroom vanities, utility cabinets, balcony storage.
Maintenance: Effectively waterproof. Lower screw holding than ply.
Use where water is unavoidable and load is light.
0.8mm Laminate
Appearance: Huge range — solids, woodgrains, stone prints. Matte or gloss.
Where it belongs: Wardrobe and cabinet shutters, internal surfaces.
Maintenance: Wipe clean. Avoid abrasive scrub on high-gloss.
The workhorse finish. Best value per square foot in the market.
1mm Textured / Suede Laminate
Appearance: Registered wood texture that follows the printed grain. Convincing.
Where it belongs: Wardrobes, TV units, feature panelling.
Maintenance: Matte suede hides fingerprints exceptionally well.
Where budget rules out veneer, this is the closest honest substitute.
Acrylic Laminate (High Gloss)
Appearance: Mirror-flat gloss, deep colour, no orange peel.
Where it belongs: Kitchen shutters, wardrobe fronts in compact rooms.
Maintenance: Microfibre cloth only. Shows dust and fingerprints.
Bounces light — genuinely useful in small or north-facing rooms.
Natural Veneer
Appearance: Real timber. Every leaf different. Grain can be book-matched.
Where it belongs: Living room panelling, doors, headboards, bar units.
Maintenance: Needs PU or melamine sealing. Re-polish after many years.
The only finish that reads as real wood in person. Specify the log.
Reconstituted Veneer
Appearance: Consistent, repeatable grain. No natural variation.
Where it belongs: Long runs of panelling where matching matters more than character.
Maintenance: Same as natural veneer — seal with PU or melamine.
Choose this when you need twelve identical doors.
Fluted / Grooved Panel
Appearance: Vertical rhythm, strong shadow lines, changes through the day.
Where it belongs: Feature walls, TV backdrops, headboards, partition screens.
Maintenance: Dust along the flutes. Avoid wet cloth on veneered flutes.
The single most effective way to give a flat wall architecture.
Solid Acrylic Shutter
Appearance: Deep, seamless gloss with true colour saturation.
Where it belongs: Premium kitchens, dressing rooms, wardrobe fronts.
Maintenance: Anti-scratch topcoat versions exist — ask for them.
Higher gloss retention over years than any laminate.
Matte PU Lacquer
Appearance: Velvet-flat colour with no visible substrate. Fully bespoke shades.
Where it belongs: Any shutter, panel or moulding where colour must be exact.
Maintenance: Soft cloth. Deep scratches can be touched up on site.
The finish to choose when the colour has to be right, not close.
Soft-Close Hinges
Appearance: Invisible when closed. Felt every single day.
Where it belongs: All shutters — kitchen, wardrobe, vanity.
Maintenance: Adjust alignment annually. Keep dust out of the damper.
Rated by cycles. Ask for the cycle count, not just the brand.
Tandem Box / Undermount Drawers
Appearance: Slim sides, full extension, silent close.
Where it belongs: Kitchen base units, wardrobe internals, study storage.
Maintenance: Keep runners clean. Do not exceed the load rating.
The clearest daily upgrade from a basic telescopic channel.
Lift-Up & Bi-Fold Systems
Appearance: Overhead shutters that stay up, exactly where you leave them.
Where it belongs: Kitchen wall units, especially above a hob or counter.
Maintenance: Gas struts are consumable — plan on eventual replacement.
Transforms how a tall wall unit is actually used.
Profile & Gola Handles
Appearance: A continuous shadow line instead of hardware.
Where it belongs: Handleless kitchens and wardrobes.
Maintenance: Wipe the channel — it collects dust.
Cleanest way to a handleless look without touch-latch failure.
Large-Format Vitrified Tile
Appearance: 800×1600 and larger. Few joints, calm floor plane.
Where it belongs: Living, dining, bedrooms, passages.
Maintenance: Very low. Epoxy grout keeps joints from discolouring.
Larger formats need a flatter screed — budget for the base.
Engineered Wood
Appearance: Real timber wear layer over a stable core.
Where it belongs: Bedrooms, studies, dressing rooms.
Maintenance: No standing water. Felt pads under furniture. Re-sandable once or twice.
Warm underfoot in a way tile never is.
Laminate Flooring
Appearance: Printed woodgrain, embossed texture, click-lock.
Where it belongs: Bedrooms and studies where budget is tight.
Maintenance: Dry mop. Water at the joints is the enemy.
AC rating matters more than the picture. Ask for AC4 or better.
Quartz (Engineered Stone)
Appearance: Consistent, non-porous, wide range of veining.
Where it belongs: Kitchen counters, vanities, breakfast counters.
Maintenance: Non-porous — no sealing. Avoid direct heat.
Our default counter recommendation for Indian kitchens.
Natural Marble
Appearance: Unrepeatable veining. Can be book-matched across a wall.
Where it belongs: Feature walls, TV backdrops, foyer floors, table tops.
Maintenance: Porous. Seal it. It will patina — that is the material, not a defect.
Choose the actual slab in person. No two are alike.
Granite
Appearance: Dense speckled or uniform dark stone.
Where it belongs: Kitchen counters, utility, window sills, thresholds.
Maintenance: Hard-wearing. Periodic sealing on lighter stones.
Still the most forgiving counter material for heavy cooking.
Back-Painted Glass
Appearance: Seamless colour with a glass depth. No grout line.
Where it belongs: Kitchen dado, wardrobe shutters, feature panels.
Maintenance: Wipes clean completely. Template carefully — no site cutting.
The easiest kitchen backsplash in the world to clean.
Tinted & Fluted Glass
Appearance: Bronze, grey or reeded. Blurs what is behind it.
Where it belongs: Display joinery, partitions, bar units, pooja doors.
Maintenance: Toughened where required by use. Dust the reeds.
Lets a room borrow light without borrowing the view.
Profile & Cove Lighting
Appearance: A line of light, not a visible fixture.
Where it belongs: Ceiling perimeters, niches, under-counter, wardrobe internals.
Maintenance: Specify a driver you can actually replace later.
CRI 90+ and 3000K. Below that, wood and fabric look wrong.
Track & Spot Lighting
Appearance: Directional pools of light on art, stone and joinery.
Where it belongs: Living, dining, corridors, feature walls.
Maintenance: Re-aim after furniture moves.
Layered light is what separates a photographed room from a lit one.
Decorative & Statement Fixtures
Appearance: The object in the room you look at first.
Where it belongs: Dining, double-height volumes, stairwells, foyers.
Maintenance: Plan the ceiling hook and drop before the false ceiling closes.
Decide the fixture before the ceiling — never after.
Sheer & Blackout Layering
Appearance: Two layers: one softens daylight, one removes it.
Where it belongs: Bedrooms and living rooms.
Maintenance: Machine-washable sheers; dry clean heavy blackouts.
A recessed curtain pelmet built into the false ceiling is worth it.
Upholstery & Rugs
Appearance: Where the room gets its texture and acoustic warmth.
Where it belongs: Sofas, bed backs, dining chairs, floor rugs.
Maintenance: Check rub count for sofas; higher is better with children.
Hard floors and hard walls make loud rooms. Textiles fix that.
Premium Emulsion
Appearance: Even, low-sheen colour across large wall planes.
Where it belongs: All internal walls and ceilings.
Maintenance: Washable grades resist marks in passages and kids rooms.
Ask to see a sample patch on your own wall, in your own light.
Textured & Lime Finishes
Appearance: Hand-applied depth and movement. No two walls identical.
Where it belongs: One feature wall — foyer, bed back, dining.
Maintenance: Sealed versions are wipeable. Touch-ups need the same artisan.
Best used once in a home. Twice and it stops being an event.
Kitchen Organisers
Appearance: Cutlery, plate, bottle and pull-out pantry systems.
Where it belongs: Kitchen base and tall units.
Maintenance: Stainless steel over powder-coat in wet zones.
Plan these before the carcass, not after. Sizes are fixed.
Wardrobe Internals
Appearance: Pull-out trouser racks, valet rods, jewellery trays, lift-up rails.
Where it belongs: Master and dressing wardrobes.

A wardrobe is judged on the inside, every morning.
Mirrors & Art Framing
Appearance: The last 5% that makes a room feel finished.
Where it belongs: Foyer, dressing, dining, living.
Maintenance: Fix into ply backing, never directly into plaster.
Leave the budget for this. Rooms without it look unfinished.
